Dancing in the Streets

Apparently, it's a Labor Day tradition here.  I'm happy to have discovered it, because it was great!  There were several blocks of Main street blocked off for various traditional dancing stages.  One thing I loved about it was that all but one of the dance stages were accompanied by live music.  So, not only were we watching traditional dances from around the world, but we got to listen to traditional music as well!  The kids participated in the maypole dance, which took impressive coordination skills on the part of the adults leading it.  We also watched the swing dance stage, where Boo seemed a little stunned by the live band.  There were lots of opportunities for participation, but the girls seemed to prefer watching and dancing on their own outside the circle.  It was also a treat to meet friends there and spend some sweet time with them.  As we were leaving, a wedding party walked through it all, and they all (bride, groom, bridesmaids, groomsmen, flower girls, ring bearers) participated in the maypole dance.  That was impressive, too.  Even the bride's hair (which was purple, to match the bridesmaids dresses) got our attention!
